Het Postkantoor aims to help people find their story by writing or speaking beyond death. Letters to the deceased. Stories about loss. For every story, a visual response. Art as solace. In our society, our relationship with death has become very unnatural. We live in a time of pain avoidance. Death is pushed out of public spaces and conversations. Mourning is something we must address. This is the mission of Het Postkantoor vzw. Het Postkantoor advocates for a compassionate society, preserving vulnerability and the power of culture. How do we do this? Our offering is twofold. On the one hand, we have a daily operation. Postkantoor 00/00/00 is a post office for letters to the deceased. We have a postman and 13 artists. Every letter writer receives a general comforting image from us. Moreover, every letter writer can, up to three months after writing, request a personalized drawing. The letter writer selects an artist from our collective, who creates the artwork for the letter writer. On the other hand, as a non-profit, we offer various workshops. Narrative moments, artistic experiences, and unique encounters. The cross-pollination between word and image in the realm of mourning and solace is always central. Because art is purifying. What do we still want to achieve?Het Postkantoor vzw aims to focus more on collaboration. Joining forces. Bringing the world of mourning and solace to the public, integrating and implementing it.We do this through our daily operations (Postkantoor 00/00/00). In addition, existing workshops such as the solace atelier, a physical mailbox, and new projects are tools to achieve this goal. Accessible and approachable. Being visible and physically present in certain places through words, images, and creation is where we are growing. What we do, we strive to do well. Bringing something into the world takes time and materials. In various forms and shapes: thinking time, creating time, writing time, negotiating time, traveling time, mailing time, and much more. What we bring into the world, we like to let grow into a gentle foundation. Through spacefunding, you can help us concretely move forward.
