Gaza Stars Team - Sports stars in the skies over Gaza ⚽️ 

Gaza Stars is a solidarity project that brings the Gazan community in Brussels together on the field. By making a football ground available to them, they are able to practise their favourite sport, as well as their own form of self-organisation. Gaza Stars are the young people of Gaza, here in Brussels. They play football. And you can support them.

Whith a year of genocide ongoing in Gaza came a year of protests and ignored actions. Belgium is now an important host country for Palestinian refugees, but waiting times for recognition of the refugee status and a place in a center are extremely long. Additionally: few, if any, activities are organized in these centers. If the government does not do it, we, the youth of Gaza organise ourselves to build a strong feeling of belonging.

Gaza Stars is a football team set up by Husam Alfaqawi, a Palestinian refugee living in Brussels. Husam's idea to create a football team came from the needs of other Gazans in Brussels. As no activities are offered to this group of young people, the idea of organising sporting activities themselves, and football in particular, came up.

The Gaza Stars team was founded with a clear vision: to promote sport activities and strengthen social ties within the Gazan community in Brussels.

The  team evolves with a spirit of cooperation and belonging to their community, where the players find in football a way to express themselves and escape from daily life pressures.  The team also represents a source of pride for the people of Gaza, expressing hope and optimism amidst crises, and shows the world that sports can collect and unite people even in the darkest conditions. Gaza Stars is a symbol of solidarity.

For the moment the Gaza Stars team will have their trainings in the VUB sports complex every saturday to prepare for future football games.

Through their participation in local and regional games, the Gaza Stars players are gaining not only sports skills, but are building bridges, sharing values such as teamwork and celebrating a collective identity.

We need your help to achieve our goal!

We play as a form of action and protest. Together, we can make our voices heard and show that sport can be a powerful force for change. The money of this crowdfunding will be used:

• To order football T-shirst, shorts, socks and shoes for the team
• To have training material and equipment
• To pay the rent of the football pitch to train on.
• To pay transport for the players. Etc.
