The Belteranga workshops were born from a dual desire: to create a moment of sharing around sewing among people of different backgrounds and to recycle old clothes and fabrics. Now that sewing is more important than ever, I need your help!

The project takes its name from 'Bel', which evokes Belgium, and 'teranga', which means welcome and hospitality in Senegalese. The sewing workshops offered by Belteranga aim to encourage new encounters while developing creativity through upcycling.

For two years, Bel-teranga has been offering sewing classes at the Maelbeek Cultural Center. With just two machines, I show how to reuse all the neglected clothes in our wardrobes. People of different nationalities come together—Belgians, Senegalese, Ecuadorians, Moroccans. Together, participants create new pieces that are showcased in an annual fashion show!

>>> I need your help

More and more people want to attend the workshops, and we're running out of equipment! In practical terms, Belteranga needs:

  • Sewing machines
  • Irons
  • Haberdashery
  • A finishing machine
  • Serger machines
  • A little budget to organize the fashion show with all our creations!

But how can you help?

You can make a donation.

In exchange for your financial support, you'll be invited to our thank-you evening / fashion show / dinner included. You won't regret it! Also know that your donation supports my project AND promotes upcycling, which is a big step against textile pollution.

Spread the word.

You can also help by sharing this campaign on your social networks or by talking about it with others.

In advance, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

You're always welcome to learn the basics of sewing and make your own clothes.
